Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical / Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: Required surgical experience License: Valid Registered Nurse license Certifications: Current BLS certification required Must-Have: Experience caring for patients after vascular, thoracic, colorectal, and general surgery. Comfortable managing chest tubes, lines, tubes, and drains for post-surgical patients. Experience with telemetry and complex wound care. Ability to perform central lines care and maintenance, as well as blood draws. Familiarity with administering drips such as Diltiazem, heparin, Lasix, insulin, or amiodarone. Experience with trachs and laryngectomies. Description: This position is for an inpatient surgical unit. The unit consists of 32 beds. Patient ratios on days are 4:1, and on nights are 5:1. The unit may share ratios with a progressive care unit. The most common diagnoses include ARDS, esophagectomies, whipples, and sepsis. The registered nurse may be expected to float to other areas as needed. On-call duties are part of this position.
