Description
The Mary Walker School District is seeking a compassionate, student-centered, and highly collaborative School Nurse to support the health, wellness, and educational success of students across the district. This position serves an important role in promoting a safe and healthy school environment through direct student care, health services coordination, health education, prevention efforts, and collaboration with families, staff, and community providers.
The School Nurse supports the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students by managing student health plans, administering medications and treatments, responding to medical needs and emergencies, maintaining accurate health records, monitoring immunization compliance, and supporting students with chronic or complex health conditions. The position also works closely with administrators, counselors, teachers, coaches, and families to remove health-related barriers to learning and ensure students are able to fully participate in school.
In addition to student care responsibilities, the School Nurse serves as a trusted resource for staff and families by promoting wellness, supporting attendance initiatives, assisting with health and safety procedures, and helping coordinate districtwide health-related programs and services. The successful candidate will value relationship-building, maintain confidentiality and professionalism, and demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting students and families in a rural school community. The School Nurse is an important member of the district’s student support team and plays a key role in helping students remain healthy, safe, connected, and ready to learn.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license required
Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) School Nurse Certification preferred or ability/willingness to obtain
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
Experience working with school-age children and adolescents preferred
Knowledge of student health procedures, medication administration, immunization requirements, and emergency response protocols
Ability to develop and manage individualized health care plans for students with medical needs
Understanding of confidentiality requirements, FERPA, HIPAA, and professional ethical standards
Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, medical providers, and community agencies
Strong communication, organization, and recordkeeping skills
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations
Experience supporting students with chronic health conditions, mental health concerns, trauma, or behavioral needs preferred
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and rural school/community dynamics preferred
Ability to support student attendance improvement efforts and address health-related barriers contributing to chronic absenteeism
Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and families
Proficiency with technology, student information systems, and electronic health records preferred
Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative student support team
Commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment for all students
Successful completion of Washington State background check/fingerprinting requirements prior to employment
