Professional Development Nurse (RN) - Operating Room, Cardiovascular Service
Dartmouth Health, Lebanon, New Hampshire
Full-time (30 to 40 hours per week)
This position is for a Professional Development Nurse in the Main Operating Room, covering the Cardiovascular Service. Experience in Cardiovascular OR nursing is required.
The Professional Development Nurse position participates in the development of and responsible for the implementation of unit-based orientation programs including nurse residency, experienced nurse orientation and licensed nursing assistant orientation. The Nurse Educator evaluates program outcomes and updates curriculum based on quality metrics, accreditation requirements and regulatory requirements. Participates in the development of and implements competency programs for new and experienced nursing staff.
Responsibilities
The Nurse Educator leads orientation, onboarding, and ongoing professional development for nursing staff, helping new team members build confidence and succeed in their roles. Working closely with unit leadership, they coordinate preceptors, manage staff competencies, and develop educational programs that support regulatory requirements, quality initiatives, and evidence-based practice. They also provide career coaching, support clinical advancement and succession planning, and help nurses transition into new specialties or roles. Through collaboration across departments, the Nurse Educator advances interprofessional learning, champions shared governance and excellence initiatives and uses data to continuously improve educational programs and patient care.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required OR Non-nursing bachelor’s degree AND Associate’s Degree in Nursing with commensurate experience and matriculation into a Master’s in Nursing program required.
- 3 years of clinical experience in identified specialty.
- Excellent informatics, verbal and written communications skills desired.
- Nursing Professional Development-Board Certified preferred within 1 year
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required.
