About the Role
As a Camp Nurse, you’ll be responsible for planning, providing, and documenting medical care for campers and staff while helping create a safe and supportive camp environment. You’ll also educate and support Camp Nursing Assistants and work closely with seasonal leadership to meet the health care needs of the camp community.

Camp staff may work at one, two, or all three of our camp locations during the summer, depending on program needs, assignment, and availability.

You don't have to live near a True Friends site to apply! Our camp positions are residential and include on-site housing and meals during employment, making this a great opportunity for individuals who live outside the immediate area, including those from other states!
 
What You’ll Do
Camp Nurse assignments may vary based on the camp program, location, and health care needs of participants.
 
Your responsibilities may include:

• Provide and oversee medical care for campers and staff, including assessing health needs, responding to concerns, and maintaining required nursing documentation
• Delegate, monitor, and assist with participants’ physical, medical, and daily living needs
• Complete and oversee participant wellness screenings and required health care documentation
• Delegate medication administration and charting to appropriately trained staff and ensure required procedures are followed
• Educate, train, and support Camp Nursing Assistants in necessary health care, physical care, and emergency procedures
• Monitor, document, and communicate health-related incidents, concerns, and day-to-day needs using established systems and tools
• Follow True Friends health care policies, procedures, and applicable requirements
• Work closely with seasonal leadership to support the health, safety, and well-being of campers, staff, and volunteers
• Assist with required health care and new-hire paperwork and processes
• Track camp health care needs and help identify and implement solutions as they arise
• Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

• All hired staff complete a minimum of one week of orientation before working with campers
• Most camp sessions run Sunday through Friday, approximately 5.5 days per week
• Staff may be asked to provide evening or overnight support as needed based on camper and program needs
• Staff receive scheduled time off between sessions and, when applicable, during sessions
• Specific schedules and time commitments vary by assignment and location

Compensation

Camp staff are paid a daily stipend rate based on their role and experience.

• First-year Camp Nurse: $218/day
• Returning staff: Eligible for an increased daily rate based on previous True Friends experiences, plus an early signing bonus when applicable
• Summer Commitment Bonus: Eligible exempt (stipend-paid) residential staff who complete their full agreement and remain in good standing may earn an additional bonus based on the number of weeks worked. Bonus eligibility begins at 6 weeks:
  • 6–7 weeks worked | additional $60 per week worked
  • 8–9 weeks worked | additional $70 per week worked
  • 10–11 weeks worked | additional $80 per week worked
  • 12–14 weeks worked | additional $90 per week worked

Requirements

What You’ll Bring to the Table

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be able to pass the required organizational background study
• Must hold an active Minnesota RN or LPN license
• Current CPR certification required
• Ability to lead, coach, and support other staff
• Strong initiative and work ethic
• Ability to safely respond to and manage physical aggression and challenging behaviors
• Ability to support participants with daily living needs
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The work environment may include both indoor and outdoor settings. Camp Nurses should be prepared to:

• Hear and communicate verbally with campers, staff, and health care professionals
• Work in an active camp environment
• Work with individuals who may display physical aggression or challenging behaviors
• Participate in camp activities and move throughout camp as needed
• Support participants with daily living and health care needs
