The North Carolina Board of Nursing is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Accounting Specialist within the Finance Department.
This position plays a critical role in supporting daily accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and processing month-end and year-end close processes. The Accounting Specialist ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls, organizational policies and laws that govern occupational licensing boards while providing reliable financial data to support management decision making.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. This individual possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear and professional interaction with stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with sound judgment and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies efficiently. A high level of accuracy, accountability, and proficiency in utilizing technology and financial systems is critical for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Support daily accounting operations and financial transactions
Maintain accurate and organized financial records
Process month-end and year-end closing activities
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and Board policies • Analyze financial data and prepare reports for management
Collaborate with internal departments to support financial processes
Minimum Qualifications:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; 2–5 years of relevant accounting or finance experience. Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
