RN - Pre‑Admission Testing (PAT) - Day Shift *Location:* Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Waxahachie, TX *Schedule:* *Full‑time*, Monday-Friday, *8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.* *Call/Holidays:* *No call, no holidays* *Department:* *Pre‑Admission Testing (PAT)* Why You'll Love This Role * *Consistent weekday schedule*-Monday through Friday, *8-4:30* * *No call and no holidays*, supporting work-life balance * *Limited direct patient care* focus with *small, supportive team* * Opportunity to make a *critical impact on surgical readiness and patient experience* Department Overview * *PAT:* 2 clinic rooms * *Team Composition:* 3 RNs dedicated to pre‑op phone assessments; 1 *PCT/HUC* stationed in the waiting room supporting patient flow and coordination * *Pace & Collaboration:* Close‑knit, collaborative environment partnering with Surgical Services, Anesthesia, and clinic teams What You'll Do * Conduct comprehensive *pre‑admission assessments* (telephone) to evaluate medical/surgical history, medications, allergies, and risk factors * *Document* thoroughly and efficiently in *Epic*; ensure all testing, clearances, and orders are completed and visible ahead of surgery * Provide *patient‑centered education* on pre‑op instructions, NPO guidelines, meds, transportation, and day‑of‑surgery expectations * Identify abnormal findings, escalate appropriately, and *coordinate* with providers, anesthesia, and surgery schedulers to resolve issues * Collaborate with team members (RNs and PCT/HUC) to optimize daily throughput and patient experience * Contribute to *quality and safety* initiatives (e.g., chart readiness audits, pre‑op compliance, cancellation reduction) Qualifications - *Must Haves* * *Current RN license* in the State of Texas (or compact RN license) * *BLS* (AHA or equivalent) * *Epic* EHR experience * Strong *patient‑centered communication* skills (clear teaching, empathy, service focus) * Solid *computer skills* and ability to multitask in a fast‑moving, phone‑heavy environment Preferred - "Nice to Have" * Prior *Surgical Services* experience (e.g., PAT, Periop, PACU, Day Surgery, Pre‑op/Anesthesia clinic) * Experience with pre‑op screening protocols, risk stratification tools, and care coordination Baylor Scott and White is the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas that empowers you to live well. Job Summary As a Procedural Registered Nurse, work as a licensed professional using the nursing practice model to oversee patient care. Responsibilities include assessing patients, identifying nursing diagnoses, and developing personalized care plans. Regularly assess patient responses. Contributions help patients navigate healthcare safely by understanding their needs and the system. This prevents complications and delays. Delegate tasks based on Texas nursing laws, patient conditions, and staff skills. Essential Functions of the Role * As a Procedural Registered Nurse, use careful clinical judgment. Assess patients and prioritize their needs. Create and adjust care plans for better results. * You will assess your nursing practices to ensure quality and effectiveness. This may involve tracking indicators, making changes based on research, and joining quality improvement initiatives. * You'll help teach patients and staff. Education will be integrated into care at all levels. * In systems thinking, you will use strategies and resources to solve problems for patients, families, and staff. * Finally, your professionalism enhances nursing practice and work environment. Key Success Factors * Having an in-depth understanding of nursing as well as patient care standards and procedures is crucial. * Understanding legal, regulatory, and professional standards is important in every profession. Certification and accreditation requirements are also crucial. Familiarity with departmental policies is vital. * Effective verbal and written communication skills are of utmost importance. * A knack for addressing problems with critical thinking is essential. * It is necessary to monitor patients' health and communicate changes efficiently to nursing staff and healthcare providers. * Lastly, giving top-notch, patient-centered care that honors patient diversity is essential. It uses the nursing process and follows nursing standards.
