POSITION TITLE: Research Scientist I, Research
STATUS: Full time / Exempt
LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site, 3 days/week remote)

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is an independent, not-for-profit organization through which nursing regulatory bodies act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting public health, safety and welfare, including the development of nursing licensure examinations. Our mission empowers and supports nursing regulators in their mandate to protect the public.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking to fill a Research Scientist opening at NCSBN. The ideal candidate will bring value to the team by serving as a principal investigator within the Research department, while providing consultation on a range of research studies and projects.
The Research Scientist I position will report to the Director, Research. This role will work closely with Research department staff and benefit from guidance and mentorship from fellow researchers on the team. The Research Scientist will also apply statistical methods to design studies, analyze data, and interpret results to translate findings into actionable insights.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advances NCSBN’s research mission by serving as a principal investigator and providing consultation on a range of national studies regarding patient safety. Serves as a lead researcher responsible for designing, managing, and overseeing scientific studies or research projects. Ensures each research study is conducted in an ethical and scientifically sound manner.
- Contributes to NCSBN’s research department by providing guidance and consultation on all aspects of the research agenda. Assists in identifying strategies to optimize current and future reporting by applying innovative techniques to analyze complex data. Visualize data and results using charts, graphs, or dashboards.
- Disseminates research findings through reports, publications, and oral presentations to internal and external groups.
- Collaborates with NCSBN staff throughout the organization to find improvements in policies and new and innovative ways of accomplishing the mission and vision of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in statistics, research methodology, or related field required.
- Able to apply advanced statistical techniques and models to analyze datasets using tools such as Python or R.
- Skilled at exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify patterns and trends.
- Ability to translate complex findings into clear communications for nontechnical audiences strongly preferred.
- Experience using Qualtrics preferred.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The anticipated starting salary for this position is $97,000 - $112,000 annually. Actual compensation will be dependent on a candidate’s relevant experience, skills, training, certifications/licenses, qualifications and geographical location.
