The PreOp/PACU Nurse provides high-quality, evidence-based care to patients preparing for and recovering from anesthesia for a broad range of surgical and procedural interventions. Perioperative nurses play a critical role in providing safe, compassionate, and timely care while upholding all regulatory, safety, and organizational standards within the perioperative environment.
The PreOp/PACU at our facility boasts 17 rooms specializing in patient care for before and after surgery. Surgical specialties supported include general surgery, orthopedics, women's health, ear-nose-throat, plastics, oncology, urology and pain management services. Perioperative nurses must demonstrate strong critical-thinking skills to prepare patients for surgery along with manage unstable postoperative patients. The role requires the ability to rapidly assess, intervene, and escalate care to ensure patient safety during the perioperative encounter. Perioperative nurses work closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and ancillary departments to maintain a safe and efficient patient care environment. This is a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and time management skills. The position requires adaptability to fluctuating patient volumes, from high-intensity surgical days to low-volume periods requiring flexibility and readiness. This role includes call requirements at present.
- Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
- Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
