Job Summary The Preanalytic Laboratory Operations Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for all preanalytic laboratory functions, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality processes that directly impact patient care outcomes. This role is accountable for the overall management of daily operations, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and workforce development within a high-volume, service-driven environment.
In addition to operational oversight, this leader plays a critical role in stabilizing and strengthening team culture and interdepartmental collaboration. The manager is expected to foster a transparent, accountable, and inclusive environment that builds engagement, promotes psychological safety, and drives staff retention through consistent leadership presence, clear expectations, and recognition of team contributions.
The Preanalytic Laboratory Operations Manager serves as a key partner across the organization, collaborating closely with nursing, clinical departments, and other hospital stakeholders to ensure seamless workflows, service excellence, and responsiveness to patient and provider needs. This position must balance hospital-wide collaboration, ensuring consistency, and maintaining operational integrity while supporting system alignment and shared goals.

Essential Functions of the Role
• Responsible for supporting professional growth within the department and acting as a mentor for aspiring leaders
• Oversees Supervisors and staff. Conducts performance reviews and ensures the team works efficiently and effectively with others.
• Develops and oversees implementation of action plans to kick-off, implement and maintain programs.
• May build voluntary cooperation through role modeling, credibility, expertise, passion, influence and persuasion.
• Oversees performance management related to recruitment, hiring and termination of employees.
• Helps with development of job descriptions.
• May serve as a member of the various teams and committees.
• Works with the BSW Phelbotomy program to ensure workforce pipeline
• Oversees equipment and property maintenance and serves as contact for vendors and repair-persons.
• Helps director(s) and others with preparation of confidential correspondence, documents and reports.
• Provides information and reports on projects, awards and achievements to Baylor Public Relations, Marketing and other areas as needed.
• Develops policies and procedures specific to the department.
• Serves as contact for the various divisions of Baylor and for external organizations or companies.
• Partners with the management team to develop, implement and administer the policies, procedures, projects, goals and targets of the department.
• Supervises administrative staff to ensure efficient operation. Measures productivity and effectiveness of service delivery processes. Promotes high quality and continuous improvement in service delivery and customer satisfaction.
• Makes recommendations or takes action for continuous improvement.
• Interviews, evaluates qualifications and skill and hires administrative staff.
• Provides career counseling through performance management process.
• Coaches and develops staff to build a highly competent team. Maintains a professional staff capable of delivering exceptional service that meets business needs.
• Works closely with leadership to plan and monitor the department's office space. Also involved in long and short-term strategic planning.
• Investigates, resolves and documents resolution of complaints concerning services
• Leading and overseeing all preanalytic laboratory operations, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., CAP, Joint Commission)
• Managing department budgets, productivity, and resource allocation to achieve financial and operational targets
• Building, coaching, and developing a high-performing team while addressing turnover and engagement challenges
• Driving cross-functional collaboration to optimize workflows, service delivery, and patient experience
• Establishing and reinforcing a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement
• Implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and support scalability across the system

• EDUCATION - Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
• EXPERIENCE - 3 Years of Experience
