Description
*Nurse Practitioner (NP)* to join our multidisciplinary Abdominal Transplant, Uterus Transplant, and Hepatobiliary Surgery team. This advanced practice role focuses on comprehensive inpatient and outpatient management of complex hepatobiliary and transplant patients. The role includes participation in inpatient rounding, outpatient clinic, education conferences, and supporting patients undergoing liver, kidney, pancreas, and uterus transplantation, as well as complex hepatobiliary surgeries. *Key Responsibilities* * Provide high-level inpatient care, including daily rounding, medical management, and discharge planning for transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients. * Manage patients in the outpatient clinic, including pre- and post-transplant evaluations, post-surgical follow-up, and hepatobiliary disease management. * Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams; order and interpret diagnostic studies; and develop treatment plans in collaboration with fellows, residents, and attending surgeons. * Manage immunosuppression, surgical complications, and comorbid conditions in transplant patients. * Participate in multidisciplinary transplant selection meetings and contribute to care planning. * Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, transplantation, medications, and follow-up care. * Serve as a liaison between surgeons, transplant coordinators, consulting services, and allied health staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. *Key Skills & Competencies* * Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills. * Ability to manage acutely ill, high-complexity patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. * Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. * Commitment to multidisciplinary, team-based patient care. *About Us* Here at Baylor Scott & White Health, we promote the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. This role includes delegated prescriptive authority and functions as an independent provider in accordance with supervising physician guidelines. The position focuses on managing pre- and post-transplant patients (e.g., kidney, liver, and other solid organ transplants) while collaborating closely with transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, and multidisciplinary teams. *Essential Functions of the Role* * Perform comprehensive assessments, including detailed histories and physical examinations of transplant patients. * Monitor and manage complex transplant cases, including immunosuppression therapy, rejection surveillance, and post-operative complications. * Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests, including transplant-specific monitoring. * Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with transplant protocols and safety standards. * Develop and implement evidence-based, individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team. * Provide daily inpatient management, including rounding, care coordination, and discharge planning. * Identify early signs of complications (e.g., infection, rejection, organ dysfunction) and initiate appropriate interventions. * Educate patients and families on transplant care, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications. * Coordinate care with case management, pharmacy, social work, and outpatient teams to ensure continuity. * Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and outcomes. * Initiate consultations and referrals when care needs exceed scope of practice. * Participate in transplant call coverage as needed. *Key Success Factors* * Advanced knowledge of transplant medicine, including immunosuppression and post-transplant complications. * Strong understanding of inpatient management of medically complex patients. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Effective interdisciplinary collaboration and interpersonal skills. * Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-acuity environments. * Proficiency in electronic medical records and healthcare technology. * Ability to develop outcomes-driven care plans and educate patients on complex regimens. * Skill in interpreting transplant-specific laboratory and diagnostic data. *Qualifications* * Texas RN licensure (or compact license) and Texas APRN authorization. * Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Texas. * Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire. * Board certification as an APRN in the applicable patient population. * Preferred: Experience in transplant, critical care, or inpatient surgical specialties. *Belonging Statement* We believe all people should feel welcomed, valued, and supported. *QUALIFICATIONS* * EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program * EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience * CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Nurse Practitioner (NP) Registered Nurse (RN) Basic Life Support (BLS): Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
