Location: Bloomington Hospital
Position: Lactation Consultant II
Shift: 0.75 FTE 30 Hours Weekly - Onsite rotating hours and rotating weekend requirement

We are seeking a dedicated Lactation Consultant II to deliver comprehensive infant feeding services, develop educational programs, and promote awareness of lactation support across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Position Overview:
The Lactation Consultant II provides expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of infant and family feeding needs. This role involves developing and marketing educational materials, increasing program awareness, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency. The consultant utilizes clinical expertise to support families, participate in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and advancing best practices in lactation support. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive lactation support and education to families through inpatient and outpatient services.
• Develop, implement, and promote educational materials for diverse audiences.
• Increase awareness of the lactation support program within the organization and community.
• Assess, diagnose, and evaluate patient and family needs related to infant feeding.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to advance patient care plans and achieve desired outcomes.
• Participate in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and program development activities.
• Promote best practices and operational efficiency in lactation support services.

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Education:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Licensure & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
- Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) required or to be obtained within one year of hire.
- CLS or CLS Certification preferred if not certified by IBLCE with the goal obtained within 1 year of date of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Additional advanced Life Support certifications may be required per department policies.
• Experience & Skills:
- Background working with childbearing families or maternal health nursing preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnosis, and patient education skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
