About this role

Position Summary:

At Camp Bauercrest, some of the most important moments of summer happen when a camper needs a little extra care. A boy visiting the Health Center with a stomachache. A camper feeling anxious about being away from home. A scraped knee after a hard-fought game. As a member of our Nursing Staff, you'll provide the medical care, reassurance, and personal attention that help campers feel safe, supported, and ready to enjoy everything camp has to offer.

Working alongside our medical providers and camp leadership team, you'll help manage the daily operations of our Health Center. From administering medications and assessing illnesses and injuries to maintaining health records and coordinating follow-up care, you'll play an essential role in protecting the health and wellbeing of our campers and staff.

Just as importantly, you'll build relationships with the boys who come through our doors. You'll recognize when a camper needs medical attention, when he needs someone to listen, and when a little encouragement can help him return to his bunk feeling more confident. You'll collaborate with counselors, families, and camp leadership to ensure that each camper receives thoughtful, individualized care.

At Bauercrest, you'll do more than provide nursing care. You'll become part of a community where your compassion, clinical judgment, and relationships help boys feel secure enough to take risks, build friendships, and grow throughout the summer.

What You'll Do:
As a member of Bauercrest's Nursing Staff, you'll work closely with our medical providers, Camp Director, Camp Mom, and fellow Health Center staff to support the health and wellbeing of our campers and staff. You'll provide compassionate medical care, help manage daily Health Center operations, and build trusting relationships with campers and families. Whether responding to an injury, managing ongoing medical needs, or reassuring a camper who isn't feeling his best, you'll play an essential role in creating a safe, supportive environment where boys can thrive.

  • Provide Compassionate, High-Quality Nursing Care: Assess and respond to illnesses, injuries, and everyday health concerns involving campers and staff. From scraped knees to more serious medical needs, provide thoughtful care that helps everyone feel safe, supported, and ready to return to camp life.
  • Support Daily Health & Medication Needs: Administer medications, monitor ongoing medical conditions, and help implement individualized health plans. Work closely with our medical providers to ensure campers receive consistent, appropriate care throughout the summer.
  • Maintain Accurate Health Records: Document medications, treatments, illnesses, and injuries while following established camp procedures, applicable regulations, and American Camp Association (ACA) standards.
  • Provide Around-the-Clock Health Center Coverage: Collaborate with fellow nursing staff to maintain 24-hour access to medical support through a rotating schedule, including overnight and on-call responsibilities.
  • Help Prepare & Maintain the Health Center: Assist with opening and closing procedures, organize medical supplies, maintain inventory, and ensure the Health Center remains clean, welcoming, and prepared to meet the needs of our camp community.
  • Promote Health & Wellness Throughout Camp: Help campers and staff develop healthy habits through education, prevention, and everyday guidance related to hygiene, hydration, illness prevention, and personal wellbeing.
  • Build Trusting Relationships With Families: Communicate with parents about illnesses, injuries, medications, and other health concerns with professionalism, empathy, and an appreciation for the trust they place in Bauercrest.
  • Respond to Medical Emergencies: Provide timely nursing assessment and care, follow established emergency protocols, and coordinate with medical providers and emergency services when additional treatment is needed.
  • Coordinate Care Beyond the Health Center: Help arrange appointments with local healthcare providers, maintain first aid supplies throughout camp, and collaborate with counselors and leadership to support campers returning to activities after illness or injury.
  • Be an Active Member of the Bauercrest Community: Work collaboratively with counselors, administrators, and fellow Health Center staff. Bring flexibility, sound judgment, and a willingness to contribute wherever your professional skills can support a safe and successful summer.

Why This Role is a Game-Changer for You:
This isn't just another summer nursing position. It's an opportunity to use your clinical skills in a setting where relationships matter, your judgment makes a difference, and the care you provide helps children experience the confidence, friendships, and independence that come from summer camp.

As a member of Bauercrest's Nursing Staff, you'll gain valuable experience in pediatric and adolescent health, clinical assessment, medication management, emergency response, and collaborative care. You'll work alongside medical providers and camp leadership, applying your knowledge in a dynamic environment where flexibility, sound judgment, and compassionate care are essential. Whether you're an experienced nurse or looking to broaden your professional experience, camp offers a unique opportunity to practice nursing outside a traditional clinical setting.

And you'll experience the moments that make this work meaningful. Helping a nervous camper feel comfortable enough to return to his bunk. Watching a boy recover from an illness and rejoin his friends. Building relationships with campers who come to see you as someone they can trust. You'll become part of a close-knit community where your presence extends beyond the Health Center and your contributions are felt throughout the Hillside.

You'll leave Bauercrest having done more than provide medical care. You'll have helped create an environment where boys feel safe, supported, and confident enough to embrace everything summer camp has to offer, while becoming part of a community that values the people who care for it
